Badminton star PV Sindhu made millions of Indians proud on Sunday after putting up a heroic performance at the World Badminton Championship and bagged the silver medal in a final match which literally went down to the wire which was called by many to be one of the best badminton matches they had seen.
The Hindustan Times though was not very happy with her performance and decided to outright belittle her achievement by calling her a choker:
Why choker @Pvsindhu1 is still not pure gold standard, writes @ronnie_sandip | Opinionhttps://t.co/Ie6wnnM0S2pic.twitter.com/KXqvXJ5Tqb
— Hindustan Times (@htTweets) August 29, 2017
This headline or the post itself was needless but HT had decided that this wan’t enough and had carried another article attacking her:
In the past year, PV Sindhu played 17 matches that went to the 3rd game. She lost 7 of them. is that good enough? https://t.co/Ie6wnnM0S2pic.twitter.com/oKr1D0Yz6R

These unfair articles on PV Sindhu irked many twitter users who decided to blast the publication:
Ludicrous, sickening piece, dripping with hate & bile for one of India’s great athletes and achievers. Don’t know what’s got into HT lately. pic.twitter.com/N1g0l0wZpe

This is gold standard journalism. To call Sindhu a choker means this guy is an absolute joker. Pity how @htTweets @HTSportsNews have fallen pic.twitter.com/Qj4XA7WPHX

Calling one of our best athlete a ‘choker’ reflects the crab mentality that afflicts our media led public discourse..

Choker? I guess the person writing this has done nothing but win & earn laurels for his family, his state & especially his country. #shame https://t.co/slAmETu3S9

Who comes up with these kind of headlines man?
Choker? She played a 73 shots rally and honestly, it was anybody’s game. Nozomi got lucky https://t.co/kXUVHctJWv— Sambit Nayak (@sambitlnt) August 29, 2017
Even eminent sports persons and sport journalists basted HT:
Articles like this is one of the reasons Indian sport is not where it should be. Shame on @htTweets https://t.co/HG35bgM6yK

Really? @HTSportsNews
Don’t know about ‘choker’ but your headline is definitely a ‘shocker’. Didn’t you see the finals? ? pic.twitter.com/6zeboOOWBb— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) August 29, 2017
Your headline @htTweets on @Pvsindhu1 is an absolute disgrace! Gutter journaslism at its worst. #rubbishreporting
