A love story between a boy and a girl came to a tragic end after their bodies were found hanging from a tree outside their village. The incident, which appears to be a suicide, has come to light from the Tamarsepur village in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh.
The bodies which were discovered by passersby on Monday morning at a field owned by a certain Ramshankar, caused panic in the region which later turned into communal unease, after the villagers discovered that the couple belonged to different religions. The police took possession and sent the bodies to a postmortem after being notified of the matter.
According to the ASP Shashikant Tiwari, the couple had first tried to use a coconut rope to hang themselves which broke into two. Thus they reportedly used the girl’s dupatta to get the job done.
The couple have been identified as Amit and Shehar Bano. Owing to the matter being linked to two communities, a police force from 3 police stations have been deployed in the region to maintain peace.
The motive behind the possible suicide seems to be the fact that the girl’s marriage was fixed to someone else and was scheduled to take place in November. The police would be launching a serious investigation into the matter.
The family of the boy which comprises of his parents and two sisters have alleged that he was murdered but haven’t filed any written comment with the police in this regard.
The boy had reportedly worked for a long time in Gorakhpur but had returned back home after falling sick due to inflammation in his liver, and was undergoing treatment. The girl who was reportedly the daughter of Atik Ahmed used to be the neighbour of Amit’s family. This report also claimed that the couple were finding it difficult to get married owing to their different religion, which allegedly prompted this extreme step.
Such an incident was also reported in 2015 from Muzzafarnagar in UP, when similarly a Hindu boy and Muslim girl had killed themselves because their families weren’t ready to accept their marriage.
