Vir Das is a stand-up comedian who now a days seems to have started doubling up as a policy and economic watchdog on Twitter.
On 30th September the comedian put out a tweet questioning the Modi government about, where was the taxpayer’s money going when it came to basic governance issues:
Stations, roads, bridges, sanitation, safety, petrol prices….in disarray…where’s your money going? Abki baar, question your sarkar.
— Vir Das (@thevirdas) September 30, 2017
It was certainly heartening to see that Vir Das had chosen to take interest in the nation’s affairs and exercise his democratic right to question the government.
A few days later a twitter user named @OnlyNakedTruth saw the tweets of Vir Das and decided to educate him about the performance of his government, which many felt Vir Das would have appreciated as he obviously looked very concerned about the nation in his tweet:
Good point. Now let me give @thevirdas a point by point rebuttal. https://t.co/lsaQiTmC8k
— Roshi CBG-san (@OnlyNakedTruth) October 4, 2017
He in his subsequent tweets educated Vir Das about the Modi government’s good performance in improving the road, sanitation and railway infrastructure of the country. He also made Vir Das aware about the improvement in the Nation’s internal security [1][2] under the Modi government.
He later also commented about Vir Das’s less than average knowledge of the Nation’s current affairs:
As Teresa May once told Corbyn “you can only lead a protest, I lead a nation”. Sums up Modi Vs jokers like @thevirdas . End.

It might have been expected, that any person in Vir Das’s position would have been very happy to know that the country is in a much better shape than what they thought and might have even felt humbled that a citizen had taken time out of his busy schedule to explain that to him.
Or just in case he thought the responses were not apt, he could have pointed out flaws in them, in a witty style, after all he’s a comedian!
But rather than responding in the aforementioned manners, Vir Das decided to come up with an extremely condescending response:
Thank you for the research! This is where someone points out to you that you work very very hard for validation from a comedian 🙂 Cheers!
— Vir Das (@thevirdas) October 4, 2017
Such a response by Vir Das might give out a feeling that he was least interested in the affairs of the nation and the only purpose of his tweet was to either peddle his agenda or seek validation from the left-liberal nexus, which welcomes mindless bashing of anything Modi.
His dismissive response wasn’t taken kindly by many twitter users who decided to rip his response apart:
If you encounter comedy with comedy the response is “respond with facts”. If you respond with facts, this is the reaction. https://t.co/o1JnKGubda

Ah the famous jon “hey I am just a comedian :-)” stewart defense (also known as clown nose on, clown nose off) when caught on BS https://t.co/F3AlIAIcns

– Only your fellow comedians seek your validation.
-This guy was showing to rest of Twitter that you have no clue https://t.co/JxshIKi76g

Anyone can be a comedian. Being funny is much harder. https://t.co/1Aa8AxzkbL

Pointing out to your lies and misinformation is not seeking validation. Go back to school and learn some basic English Joker https://t.co/baPQ8RNDjr

Most people don’t understand the difference between a laughing stock and a comedian https://t.co/Swgdmclsy8

You’re a true comedian sir. Laughable even when you are serious. #Respect ??
— The-Lying-Lama (@KyaUkhaadLega) October 4, 2017
Even @OnlyNakedTruth decided to respond:
Took me just 30 min to gather data. Only if you had googled. You try too hard for cheap RTs . Stick to comedy. https://t.co/14Cbfi738m
— Roshi CBG-san (@OnlyNakedTruth) October 4, 2017
Later when Vir Das was obviously getting slammed left and right he decided to come out and in a veiled dig, dismissed his critics as trolls:
To the extremely well coordinated effort of trolls this evening. It was truly quite a lot of fun. Have a great night guys. Love and luck ?
— Vir Das (@thevirdas) October 4, 2017
Such a response too is fairly common among a section of the society who routinely dismiss people as trolls when they have been exposed or don’t have any meaningful response in a perfectly normal debate.
