AAP MLA arrested and advisor to Kejriwal detained for questioning in the Chief Secretary assault case

The Delhi police on Tuesday night had arrested AAP’s MLA Prakash Jarwal from his residence in Deoli. Yesterday the Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash had registered an FIR against AAP leaders Amanullah Khan and others for allegedly assaulting him in the presence of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.

According to reports, earlier in the day, Prakash Jarwal and Ajay Dutt, another AAP MLA from Ambedkarnagar had lodged complaints against the Delhi Chief Secretary for casteist remarks. Incidentally, the Chief Secretary in his complaint had also mentioned that he was threatened with false cases specifically under the atrocities act by AAP MLAs in the presence of Arvind Kejriwal. Anshu Prakash had claimed in his complaint letter that he was summoned to the Delhi CM’s residence at the middle of the night and was asked why there were delays in clearing the advertisements marking the three year anniversary of the AAP government in Delhi. The chief secretary had made grave allegations that he was abused and assaulted by Amanatullah Khan and other MLAs.

The Advisor to the Chief Minister has also been detained and the news was, that if he is found guilty of conspiracy, he will be arrested.

Amusingly, in a bid to play the victim, AAP leaders have condemned the arrest of Prakash Jarwal and tweeted that he was very recently married. It is thus telling, that instead of condemning the assault on a public servant, the ones who wanted to “change the way politics is done” are today indulging in the worst form of thuggery and abuse of power.

Amanatullah Khan is absconding. There are rumours in social media that he has escaped Delhi in fear of arrest.

However, this is not the first time that assault allegations have surfaced against the AAP MLA Jarwal. Last year he was booked for allegedly molesting a 53-year-old woman and threatening her family with violence.

Delhi is now facing a constitutional crisis. IAS Association has strongly condemned this attack:

The Association has declared that they will continue their duty but they have demanded that the culprits involved in assaulting the chief secretary should be arrested and strong action be taken against them.
