SIT commissioned to probe Mulayam Singh Yadav for threatening a senior police officer in 2015

In what might sound as trouble for Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, a Special Investigative Team (SIT) has been commissioned by SSP Deepak Kumar for investigating the matter of Mulayam Singh threatening an IPS officer. This decision was taken after deliberations with Abhay Kumar Mishra, the Circle officer Hazratganj, who is leading the investigation into the matter. Anil Kumar Yadav, the Circle officer of Barazkhala would be leading the SIT.

The case dates back to 2015 when the IPS officer Amitabh Thakur had filed an FIR against Mulayam over charges of the SP supremo threatening him via phone call on 10th July 2015. As per Amitabh, Mulayam was miffed with him due to his activist wife filing a complaint against a corrupt minister of the SP government.

Apart from allegedly being threatened, Amitabh also suffered at the hands of the SP government which suspended him and also served him a 16 point charge sheet. The police had incidentally resisted from filing the FIR against Mulayam, which had elicited a protest by Amitabh. The SP supremo was finally booked under section 506 of the IPC which pertains to criminal intimidation.

The main purpose of the five-member SIT is to take Mulayam’s voice sample. A court on 20th August 2016 had directed that the same be done but the prosecuting agencies had failed to procure it. In July of last year, it was reported that Mulayam had openly refused to give his voice sample regarding this matter. and it remains to be seen how cooperative he is this time around.

Besides this, Mulayam might also get into trouble for ordering a firing “Kar Sewaks” in Ayodhya back on 30th October 1990, while being the Chief Minister of UP. These Kar Sewaks had assembled in the city for carrying out a peaceful agitation for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. It was reported that a petition had been filed in the Supreme Court which sought that an FIR is filed against Mulayam Singh Yadav regarding this matter.
