The Pakistan Army has been committing a series of human rights violations in Balochistan for years. From mass killings to abduction, torture and then eventual murder, the province has witnessed unimaginable brutalities over the years. Pakistan has used weapons supplied to it by the US government to wage war against the Balochs.
Brahumdagh Bugti, the President of the Baloch Republican Party, has been raising the atrocities suffered by his people across several international forums. Bugti, whose grandfather Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti killed by the Pakistani Army in an encounter, has in the past demanded a referendum for the Baloch people under the supervision of the United Nations.
In his 2016 Independence Day Speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken of the Balochs. A short while after the speech, Baloch freedom fighters had raised the Indian Tricolour in a rally in support of Prime Minister Modi.
