Indore based model claimed that she was sexually harassed and molested last night and narrated her ordeal on micro-blogging site Twitter.
This happened today. Two guys tried to pull my skirt while I was on my activa and said, “dikhao Iske niche Kya hai?” I tried to stop them and lost control and met with an accident. pic.twitter.com/V02hb62vwE

She states how humiliating the experience was and that it took her a while to gather some composure.
My friends took me to a nearby cafe and I tried my level best to let this incident go. Not because I’m weak, but for those thirty min, I wasn’t ready to deal with it. I was numb. I was speechless.

She then said how so many others also face sexual harassment on streets and decided to bring a logical end to her ordeal by filing an FIR. Just after her fall, she went live on photosharing app, Instagram to narrate her ordeal. However, as per police, they tried to contact her but she has not yet approached the authorities to file an official complaint.
Woman had tweeted about the incident & we have have tried to contact her. Until now, we have not received any complaint. While Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured her of support and speedy justice.
Sir, I can’t thank you enough for this. I have full faith in our judiciary system and our government. I want every woman in my city and my country to be safe. Thank you again.

Amidst all this, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor took this opportunity to score a political point by trying to imply that the harassment the girl faced had been sanctioned from ‘the top’.
Read this thread. How the self-appointed custodians of Bharatiya Sanskriti harassed a woman because of what she was wearing. What gives these jerks the right to do so? Officially-sanctioned bigotry & sanctimony from the top. We need to free Indians from such mob morality. https://t.co/if7K5Cny2S

Sexual harassment is a societal problem that not just the politicians, but the citizenry should fight together. It is humiliating for women as it is, without politicians using the woman’s ordeal to play vulture politics. This comment by Shashi Tharoor displays exactly what is wrong with the ‘fight against sexual harassment’ and the ‘fight for women’s dignity’. Today, this social evil perhaps isn’t viewed as a menace that needs to be fought, but every case is viewed as a political tool to beat the political opposition with.
Shashi Tharoor twisted a case of sexual harassment in order to somehow blame Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying ‘it was sanctioned from the top’. This irrational gibberish is unfortunate what the political discourse has stooped to.
