After calling Yogi and Modi ‘outsiders’, Rahul Gandhi plays the ‘my mother is from Italy yet Indian’ card

Congress President Rahul Gandhi today has stated that his mother, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi is more Indian than many Indians. According to reports, Rahul Gandhi was speaking to media persons after winding up the Karnataka election campaign earlier today.

Rahul reportedly stated that his mother is from Italy but she is more Indian than many other Indians he knows. Rahul added that his mother has sacrificed for the country and has spent a major part of her life in India.

It is notable here that the Karnataka Congress including the CM Siddaramaiah had been attacking UP CM Yogi Adityanath as an ‘outsider’ in the state and some days ago, they had addressed him as Ajay Bisht, his formal name before he renounced it to become a monk of the Gorakhpeeth. The disrespect shown to the mahant of Gorakhpeeth was criticised by many and earlier this week the Karnataka BJP had reacted by addressing Sonia Gandhi by her original name.

Twitter users reacted after Rahul Gandhi’s statement.

It is ironic that while playing the “baahari” card and calling Prime Minister Modi and Yogi Adityanath as “outsiders” with respect to Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi is now playing the “my mother is Italian yet Indian” card and expecting acceptance.

Karnataka will vote on May 12th and the results will be declared on May 15th. Earlier, PM Modi had challenged Rahul Gandhi for a 15-minute debate in any language, including his mother’s mother tongue.
