Balaji Kamble, a 33-year-old BJP corporator was brutally murdered on Bhosari-Alandi Road on Tuesday by two motorcycle-borne assailants who assaulted him with cutters and other sharp weapons. Kamble, was a first-time councillor of Alandi Municipal Council, was declared dead on arrival at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital.
According to police, Kamble was riding his two wheeler to Alandi from Pune city unknown attackers intercepted him near Wadmukhwadi on Bhosari-Alandi Road and hit him on the head with a weapon. Kamble fell off his bike onto the road in a pool of blood and the attackers fled the spot.
According to Police, Kamble used to own a real estate business and it is not clear whether the motive behind the murder is rivalry. An offence has been registered against the unidentified killers at Dighi police station. As per reports, the police is looking at CCTV footage near the area.
BJP workers have frequently been a victim of political murders. In February this year, BJP worker Santhosh was brutally murdered in Karnataka. Similarly, murders of BJP and RSS workers have been in Kerala and West Bengal have been on the rise in recent times.
Kamble is survived by his wife, two children, a sister and a brother.
