Four weeks after BJP worker’s body was found, police registers murder case in Purulia, West Bengal

Almost four weeks after the body of a 32-year-old BJP worker, Dulal Kumar, was found hanging from a high tension electricity pole, the police has filed a fresh murder case. Previously, the chilling incident was filed as ‘suicide’. As per a report in Economic Times, a case has been initiated under sections 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), 302 (murder), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The fresh case comes five days before BJP President Amit Shah’s visit to Purulia. The case has been registered as a murder case on the insistence of Dulal’s family, who have alleged it to be a murder, not a suicide. Following this incident, the Bengal BJP pinned the blame on TMC goons, whom it accused of executing the order of Mamata’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee.

To give some context, Mamata’s nephew had recently made a statement that “he would make Purulia opposition free”. Just a day later an 18-year-old BJP worker named Trilochan Mahato was found murdered in similar circumstances in Balrampur itself.

What made matters worse was the message inscribed on Trilochan’s shirt, which stated that he deserved to die for working for the BJP at such a young age. Dulal’s murder was the second in a week.
