Six Bangladeshis have been arrested in Delhi in connection with armed robberies and shooting at an Assistant Sub-Inspector, the Police said on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Islam, Ikram, Sohail, Harun, Appan and Suttan Sheikh.
First they looted a house after holding an elderly couple hostage. As per reports, the Bangladeshis broke into the house of an elderly couple in Preet Vihar, thrashed them and robbed them of jewellery worth lakhs. On July the 27th, they attempted to repeat of their earlier successful robbery in the same area but the Police arrived after receiving a distress call which led to a scuffle.
ASI Lokesh Sharma was fired at in the scuffle that ensued and he had to be rushed to the Hospital while the accused managed to flee. The Police found a bag belonging to the goons near the railway tracks which led them to Ikram who led them to his aides.
According to the Police, the gang has been committing crimes since 1994. The gang is said to have been involved in several loot cases in 1994, 2002, 2005, 2009, 2017 and 2018. The Police also recovered pistols, cartridges, knives, looted jewellery and the tools used to break into houses from the accused.
