One TMC worker was killed and five others injured in a blast at their party office in Narayangarh, West Midnapore. The deceased has been identified as Sudipta Ghosh. The injured were rushed to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital where one is said to be extremely critical.
As per initial reports, a crude bomb was responsible for the blast at Makarampur village, Narayangarh Tehsil. However, it is being said that a cylinder explosion could also have been responsible for the blast. Pradyut Ghosh, TMC MLA of Narayangarh, has said that the cause of the blast hasn’t been ascertained yet and the Police is still looking into it.
The Bharatiya Janata Party is, however, convinced that crude bombs were responsible for the blast. They claim that crude bombs were being manufactured in the building when the blast occurred. “We have been complaining to the police regularly stating that the local TMC leaders have created a team of goons [who] spread terror… Today’s incident is just a mere example. I can guarantee that all party offices of the TMC are stocked with weapons and gunpowder. TMC is planning to attack us with bombs and guns,” Samit Das, the district BJP president, said.
Trinamool Congress has a reputation of sharing an intimate relationship with explosives. In 2017, the house of a man who was previously associated with TMC was destroyed after 200 crude bombs that were hoarded there exploded. In February that year, 3 people were severely injured while they were making bombs in an under-construction house of a TMC leader in Burdwan. Earlier in May this year, locals had discovered explosives in the house of TMC leader Arabul Islam.
