A 19-year old student of Kaliachak High School was arrested by Murshidabad District Police near Chander More on Saturday in possession of a huge cache of arms and ammunition, one of the biggest hauls in recent months, while one other person managed to flee.
The Police recovered twelve 7.65 pistols, 24 magazines, eighty-four round 7.65 mm ammo, eight numbers of 8mm pipe gun, sixteen rounds of 8mm ammo from Mostaherul Islam, a student of class 11.
Mukesh, Murshidabad district police superintendent, said, “Mostaherul Islam, 19, used to be a resident of Sherpur-Nimtata village in the Shamserganj area of Murshidabad. But now he stays in the Sultanganj College more area of Kaliachak. He studies in class 11 at Kaliachak High School.”
He added, “In recent months, police have seized a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from Shamserganj and Farakka areas. Some people were arrested during these raids. During interrogation, they mentioned Mostaherul. We started monitoring his activities.”
The Superintendent of Police also said that Mostaherul was the carrier while the person that managed to flee was the main culprit. The arrested student will be produced before the Court with the intent of securing 14 days Police remand.
