Former Chief Minister of Kerala, Oommen Chandy, will face a criminal investigation as the Crime Branch confirmed that they are investigating the senior Kerala Congress leader on suspicion of having sexually assaulted solar energy investment fraud case accused Sarita Nair at his official residence at Cliff house in Thiruvananthapuram in 2013. As per reports, an FIR has been registered against K.C. Venugopal on charges of rape as well, another Congress leader and a former Union Minister.

As per reports, in the FIR filed on Saturday in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thiruvananthapuram, the Crime Branch accused Chandy of having committed a sexual act on Saritha Nair regarded as unnatural. The complete details of the FIR are yet to surface in the public domain.

In her recent complaint to the Crime Branch, Saritha claimed that she had sought political patronage from Chandy to woo private investment for her solar energy projects. She claimed that Chandy had sought sexual favours from her to promote her business and received them also.

Earlier, Saritha had filed a complaint against multiple people but the Special Investigative Team was advised that a case should not be registered against many people on the basis of a single complaint. Saritha was then advised to file complaints against the people individually following which she is said to have lodged six complaints with the Crime Branch.
