Deriving its name from the legendary mythological bird, who was also the mount of Lord Vishnu, the Garud Commando Force has a strength of about 1080 personnel. The Garud commandos are trained at the regimental training centre at Chandipur. Garud commandos are armed with Israel-made grenade launchers and semi-sniper rifles.
