Speaking at an event to seek support for 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lent his support for illegal colonies in the capital city and asserted that he would “transform” them to resemble neighbourhoods in London and Paris. He also said that the Bharatiya Janata Party wanted to demolish these settlements while he wanted to develop them.
The AAP supremo, after inaugurating the laying down of sewer lines in 33 colonies of Vikaspuri assembly constituency, stated, “The BJP wants to demolish unauthorised colonies because they think these colonies are an eyesore and that people living there colonies are criminals. But I ensure you that AAP will continue to work for unauthorised colonies.”
Kejriwal went to say, “We will make roads, lay sewer lines and install street lights in all unauthorised colonies in the next two years. We will make them look like London and Paris. All you need to do is vote us to power in Lok Sabha elections.”
Satyendra Jain, who is accused of money laundering, also found support from Kejriwal who claimed that the Modi government had not responded to the Delhi government’s proposal to regularize unauthorized colonies. “Within three months of forming the government, we had sent a proposal to the Centre to regularise unauthorised colonies. It has been three years but Mr Modi has not approved it so far. On the other hand, they filed a case against Satyendra Jain, who worked day and night for regularising the unauthorised colonies,” he said.
Kejriwal, who has a habit of making outrageous allegations, accused the BJP of working against Poorvanchalis. He claimed that the party had deleted 30 lakh people from the electoral lists, including 15 lakh Poorvanchalis.
“You will be surprised to know that the BJP has got votes of 15 lakh Purvanchalis deleted across Delhi. I was told by someone that the BJP is getting votes of Muslims, Purvanchalis and Banias deleted at a large scale. Even I did not know this. When I got this claim probed, it was revealed that 15 lakh votes of Purvanchalis, 4 lakh of Banias and 8 lakh of Muslims deleted,” Kejriwal told people attending the event.
The BJP has called the allegations baseless and accused the Aam Aadmi Party of playing caste politics.
