Amidst a huge furore over the failure of Karnataka government to fulfil its promises of loan waiver, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy seems to be in a mood to party. Kumaraswamy is heading to Singapore to celebrate the welcoming of the new year, reported Bangalore Mirror.
CM HD Kumaraswamy has left for Singapore on Saturday night along with his MLA wife Anitha Kumaraswamy and actor son Nikhil Kumar to celebrate the new year, at a time when most parts of the state are reeling under drought.
The Congress-JDS coalition government’s failure to waive off the loan despite Congress President Rahul Gandhi had claimed of unconditional loan waiver has already cost two lives in the state. The false promise of farm loan waiver is yet to be implemented in the state and farmers have been receiving repayment notices by banks contrary to Rahul Gandhi’s claims of complete waiving of farm loans in the state.
The Congress-JDS led government in Karnataka has been facing a lot of heat within its coalition as discontent among its senior leaders is out in open. Recently senior Congress leaders like Ramalinga Reddy has expressed his disappointment over non-inclusion in the cabinet. Another Congress strongman Ramesh Jarakiholi has threatened to quit the party and joining hands with the BJP after he was axed from the cabinet.
Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has also been facing the wrath of the public after he had ordered for an ‘encounter‘ of the accused involved in the murder of a Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) party worker. A complaint has also been registered by an activist against the Chief Minister for ordering to ‘mercilessly kill’ an accused.
Meanwhile, BJP has taken a dig at Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy by referring to him as an “Accidental Chief Minister”. The opposition party BJP went on to slam the Chief Minister for his luxurious trip to Singapore despite state suffering from severe drought. They further questioned the Chief Minister who would play his role if a movie called “Accidental Chief Minister” is made on his life citing a similar movie produced on the life of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
“After new govt was formed 377 farmers have ended their lives 156 talukas declared drought-hit, loan waiver has still not been done, Karnataka has slipped to a debt-ridden state & here we have the so-called son of soil CM @hdkumaraswamy celebrating new year in Singapore (sic),” the Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said in a tweet.
