Family of Chandan Gupta, killed during Tiranga Yatra on Republic Day last year, honoured by UP government

A chowk will be named after Chandan in the town, as per the demand of the family

Last year on the Republic Day, a young boy named Chandan Gupta was killed in Kasaganj in UP during a clash when he was participating in a Tiranga Yatra. In the Republic Day parade organised in the police line in Kasganj this year, the family of deceased Chandan was honoured by the state government. Sushil Gupta, the father of Chandan, was offered a memento as a mark of tribute by Suresh Pasi, Minister in charge of the district. District Magistrate R P Singh also paid tribute to Chandan.

Following the demands from Chandan’s family, the Minister in charge of the district and the District Magistrate announced that a chowk or intersection in the town will be named after Chandan. The chowk will be called ‘Chandan Chowk’. A Committee will be set up to decide which intersection to be developed as Chandan Chowk.

Along with these, Chandan’s sister Kirti has been offered a contractual job with the government, the minister informed.

Tight security arrangements were made in Kasganj this time to avoid any untoward incident. RAF, PAC and Police force were deployed in public areas.

Last year the members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student of wing of RSS, were attacked while taking out the Tiranga Yatra on the Republic Day through a Muslim locality. The chants of ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ by the ABVP members irked some people of a particular community which sparked violence and resulted in the death of 16 year old Chandan.
