Delhi police on Wednesday arrested former Bihar MLA Raju Singh, hiding in Uttar Pradesh after he shot a 42 year-old-woman during new year celebrations on December 31 2018. He was an MLA from JDU, who had later joined BJP and unsuccessfully contested the 2015 elections on a BJP ticket.
The police recovered 2 rifles and 800 bullets from the former MLAs’ farmhouse in Delhi where the incident took place.
Raju Singh had fled after the victim was injured in an alleged celebratory firing. Special Commissioner of Police, (Law and Order) South, RP Upadhyay, said that the Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj, where the victim was rushed to after being injured at the party, informed the police at around 1 am about the incident.
A case has been registered against BJP leader Raju Singh and others under Sections 307, 201, 34 of the IPC.
The victim, who has been identified as Archana Gupta, an architect by profession, was in the farmhouse with her husband to celebrate the new year along with friends. The farmhouse belongs to the MLAs’ mother.
Archana’s husband, in his complaint, alleged that at around midnight, two-three rounds were fired by Raju Singh. Immediately after the firing, he noticed that his wife collapsed on the ground. On checking, he found her bleeding. Archana was rushed to the hospital where she is undergoing treatment, he added.
A police officer investigating the case said that the accused MLA already has five more cases registered against him in Bihar. His wife is also a former Member of Legislative Council of Bihar.
