Trouble in SP-BSP alliance: SP MLA says alliance won’t work unless Akhilesh Yadav becomes a ‘yes-man’ to Mayawati

On January 12, SP and BSP declared in a joint press conference done by BSP supremo Mayawati and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav that they will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections under an alliance.

Days after Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samajwadi Party’s Mayawati came together and jointly convened a presser to declare their coalition going into the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, SP MLAs are coming forward to raise their apprehensions on the proposed alliance. Today, SP MLA from Sirsaganj of Firozabad, Hari Om Yadav has raised serious qualms over the coalition between the SP and BSP for the Lok Sabha Elections.

Calling into question Akhilesh Yadav’s sagacity, Hariom claimed that the alliance would not yield the envisaged benefits. He also foreboded that the alliance wouldn’t last long. Hari Om also claimed that the alliance would only continue so long as Akhilesh Yadav continues to acquiesce to Mayawati’s whims and fancies.

MLA Hari Om Yadav said, “This coalition will not work in Firozabad. The coalition will never succeed here. Everyone knows Mayawati. She does not listen to anyone and does what she wants. This alliance can only last till our President, Akhilesh Yadav, continues to remain a ‘yes-man’ to Mayawati and submitting to all her demands (ghutne tekte rahe).”

On January 12, SP and BSP declared in a joint press conference done by BSP supremo Mayawati and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav that they will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections under an alliance. The alliance’s sole agenda, according to both leaders, is to keep BJP out of power. As per alliance, SP and BSP will fight on 38 seats each. They have left 2 seats for other smaller parties and 2 seats of Amethi and Raebareli for Congress.

Though the alliance between SP and BSP has seemingly rejected any future possibility of inclusion of Congress in the alliance the ensuing drama of ousting Congress could just be shadow-boxing between the parties to get their caste equations right. It seems that the alliance of BSP-SP and Congress could be all set to form a post-poll alliance once the 2019 elections have been concluded.
