In a gruesome terrorist attack on the CRPF soldiers in Awantipora in Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir, 12 soldiers have lost their lives.

A high-intensity IED blast targeted a convoy of 70 vehicles of the CRPF carrying 2500 personnel which was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar.

Two vehicles of the convoy were targeted in the IED blast. Pakistan backed terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed the responsibility of the cowardly attack.

Police sources say that the attack was likely carried out by a suicide bomber, who rammed an explosive-laden car into the CRPF bus, which was part of the convoy.

The terrorist attack has left dozens of jawans injured and as per reports, the death toll is expected to rise.

According to Zulfiqar Hassan, IG CRPF (Operations), an investigation on the attack has been taken up by the Jammu and Kashmir police.

This is being called as the deadliest terrorist attack on security forces in Kashmir since 2004 when 28 BSF personnel were killed in a terrorist attack. More details are awaited on the incident.
