NDA candidate from Wayanad Thushar Vellappally seeks review of Rahul Gandhi’s Wayanad nomination over foreign passport issue

Congress President Rahul Gandhi seems to have landed in some serious trouble regarding his citizenship. After objections were raised over the discrepancies in the documents submitted by Gandhi while filing his nomination from Amethi, now a complaint has been filed against his nomination from Wayanad.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate from Wayanad, Thushar Vellappally has written to the Chief Election Commission (CEO) Kerala requesting to review Rahul Gandhi’s nomination from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency. He wrote that Rahul Gandhi is carrying the passport of a foreign country as well and that this was not disclosed by him in his affidavit. “It’s understood that Rahul Gandhi is having passport of a foreign country also. He didn’t disclose this in the nomination filed or in the affidavit”, he wrote.

Vellappally requested the CEO to review the acceptance of Gandhi’s nomination in Wayanad to check for its validity and reject the application.

Thushar Vellappally is the president of Bharat Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS), which is part of NDA. On April 1st, BJP president Amit Shah had announced on Twitter that Vellappally will be NDA candidate from Wayanad.

Following the objections raised by an independent candidate from Amethi, Dhruv Lal, the scrutiny of Gandhi’s nomination papers was postponed to April 22 as Gandhi’s lawyer sought time from the Returning Officer of Amethi to counter the objections.
