BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya released from jail, says not embarrassed or guilty of thrashing the municipal corporation officer

Akash, who was charged in the assault case and for protesting over power cuts in the state, was released after submitting a bond of Rs 20000 and Rs 50000 respectively.

Senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son and the BJP MLA representing the assembly seat of Indore-3 in Madhya Pradesh, Akash Vijayvargiya who was arrested four days ago after he was caught on camera assaulting a civic official here in Indore, Madhya Pradesh with a cricket bat, was released from a local jail on Sunday morning. The MLA was garlanded by supporters as he walked out of the jail.

The MLA who was granted bail by the additional sessions judge Suresh Singa, of a special court in Bhopal, said after stepping out of the jail, “I spent a good time in jail. I will keep working for the betterment of the region and public.”

In a video that surfaced, BJP MLA Akash VIjayvargiya’s supporters could be seen firing celebratory gunshots in the air after the news of his bail came in on Saturday. The supporters could be seen dancing in front of the first-time legislator’s office in Indore.

Akash, who was charged in the assault case and for protesting over power cuts in the state, was released after submitting a bond of Rs 20000 and Rs 50000 respectively.

He justified his action by saying, “In a situation when a woman was being dragged in front of police, I couldn’t think of doing anything else.” Akash Vijayvargiya also said that he was not embarrassed at what he did but he prays to God that he does not get another chance to repeat his actions, “I am not embarrassed at what I did. But I pray to God ki vo dobara ballebazi karne ka avsar na de (I pray to God that I do not get another chance to bat like that),” Akash Vijayvargiya said.


The Indore police had arrested senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s son Akash Vijayvargiya for attacking a Municipal Corporation official with a cricket bat in the city on Wednesday.

A First Information Report (FIR) had been registered against Akash and 10 others at MG Road police station in Indore under IPC 353, 294, 506, 147, 148, for assaulting and obstructing a public servant from performing his duties. Police have also recorded the statements of two civic body officials.

The BJP MLA was recorded thrashing a civic body official using a cricket bat who was in the Ganji Compound area to carry out an anti-encroachment drive. Akash along with his supporters chased the official. The incident took place in full public view including the presence of policemen and television crews.

After his first bail plea was denied Akash was earlier sent to jail until July 7. The arrest of the BJP MLA had let to national outrage. Posters supporting Akash Vijayvargiya appeared in parts of Indore which read, “Salute Akash ji”.

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah had also sought a report after Madhya Pradesh BJP MLA  was arrested.

After his arrest also, the MLA had maintained that the civic body officers who went to the residential building during the anti-encroachment drive were not accompanied by any female officers. Alleging that officers dragged the women residents and verbally abused one of them, the BJP MLA added, “I was very angry. I don’t remember what all I did. Let’s see what happens.”

He had also alleged that Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma had sent some anti-social elements to capture the building and the Municipal Corporation workers were helping the Congress leader in grabbing the building.
