Controversial Tamil director Pa Ranjith makes abusive claims against Hinduism, calls Chola legend Raja Raja Chola a ‘land grabber’

Raja Raja Chola was the man behind the resurgence of the Cholas not only in the south but also in regions far beyond Indian territories during the 11th century.

Pa Ranjith, a controversial Tamil director, who claims to be a follower of Periyar and Ambedkar, has created a controversy by making abusive remarks not only against Hinduism but also against one of the greatest rulers of the country, Raja Raja Chola.

A video has gone viral on social media where Pa Ranjith, who often indulges in anti-Hindu and anti-upper caste narrative through in his films, can be heard making vicious Hinduphobic statements. In his speech, he asserts that the government should grab the lands given to mutts and should re-distribute them to Dalits. He further tries to spew venom by attempting to alienate Dalits from being Hindus and alleged that Hindus had grabbed land from Dalits.

Mocking the Hindus and their gods, Pa Ranjith arrogantly went on to make intimidating statements saying that if cows are considered to be the god of the Hindus, then he is the one who eats their god.

Pa Ranjith further goes on to foul mouth against one of the greatest emperors of Chola dynasty, Raja Raja Chola. Calling the Raja Raja Chola’s rule as the dark times of the era, Ranjith further peddles false narrative claiming that caste oppression was started during the time of Raja Raja Chola.

In a desperate attempt to gain some fame, Pa Ranjith has deliberately chosen to ignore the cultural and political accomplishments of the great Chola empire, especially Raja Raja Chola and instead resorted to cheap abuses against Hinduism and the Chola Empire.

Raja Raja Chola is one of the greatest emperors of the medieval era. Being a great patron of Shaivism, he constructed the great Raja Rajeshwar temple also known as the Brihadeeswarar temple at Tanjore, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Raja Raja Chola was the man behind the resurgence of the Cholas not only in the south but also in regions far beyond Indian territories during the 11th century. The Cholas during the rule of Raja Raja Chola developed links all over south India. They had even brought Srilanka, South- East Asia and even China under the network of their trade.

It is highly disturbing that self-proclaimed Ambedkarites and Periyarites like Pa Ranjith are freely allowed to hate monger and indulge in divisive politics, who otherwise have no sense of the history or respect for their own culture.
