Praveen Chakravarty, the Congress party’s data analytics team head who allegedly ‘sold’ dubious data to Rahul Gandhi, has now taken a dig at critics for making him a ‘scapegoat’ for Congress’ performance in the elections. Praveen Chakravarty is also often blamed by political pundits for Congress’s disastrous performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
In a tweet, Praveen Chakravarty mocked the Congress leadership and critics by citing a reference to India’s defeat against New Zealand in the ICC Cricket World Cup. He claimed that despite India loss in the World Cup, nobody held the support staff responsible for it.
Heartbreaking to watch India lose to New Zealand & crash out of the cricket world cup.
Led valiantly by their captain, India had a string of remarkable wins & fought hard in this crucial game but lost.
Wisely, the team’s support staff is not being blamed solely for this defeat.— Praveen Chakravarty (@pravchak) July 11, 2019
Chakravarty took a dig against the Congress leadership for blaming him for the loss and not the Congress President instead. With his remarks, Chakravarty has now kicked up a debate over absolving Rahul Gandhi from abdicating his responsibility. He has targetted the party leadership for intentionally making him a scapegoat for the failure of Congress leadership, particularly party president.
Shifting the blame
There has been a concerted campaign within the Congress to shield the Gandhi-scion from any criticism post-election defeat. Efforts are being done to put the blame of insignificant leaders for their disastrous performance. One of the scapegoats for Rahul Gandhi’s incompetence was Praveen Chakravarty, Congress’ Data Analytics Department’s head.
The Congress has blamed Praveen Chakravarty for misleading Rahul Gandhi by feeding him wrong information that led to the poll debacle in 2019. The Congress had suspected that Praveen Chakravarty was a mole planted by the Modi government to ensure that he fed misinformation in order to hand party a loss.
Further, the Congress leadership has found ways to insulate Rahul Gandhi from the blame game. Few of the party senior leadership has decided to resign from their party posts. Jyotiraditya Scindia, Milind Deora has already submitted their resignation by taking the bullet for Rahul Gandhi.
Crisis in Congress
After Rahul Gandhi abdicating his responsibility, Congress has started a frantic search for the party president. Even today, Rahul Gandhi signalled his intentions clear of being an opposition leader perpetually rather than taking up the mantle of leadership. This comes at a time when the party is sliding into irrelevance.
