Mosques in the valley under scanner, Amit Shah’s Home Ministry seeks the details of mosques in Jammu and Kashmir

The mosques in the state of Jammu and Kashmir have been under the scanner for a very long time now as some of them are power centres where secessionist activities are believed to be propagated.

The mosques in Jammu and Kashmir are under the scanner of Ministry of Home Affairs. All the districts in the state have been asked to provide details of the management of all mosques, especially in the Valley, reports Times Now.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the district police officials to send a report on the necessary details of the mosques operating in the state including the information about management and the locations of these mosques.

The Home Ministry has reportedly asked for details of maulvis and funding of the mosques and how they are functioning. “Kindly provide details of mosques and their management falling within your respective jurisdiction as per proforma of this office immediately for onward submission to higher authorities as per the format,” said the MHA order reportedly read.

The religious heads have taken an objection to this move and called it ‘religious interference. Meanwhile, the Governor’s Advisor has told Times Now that no such order has been issued. However, Times Now has reportedly accessed another police order which has stated that such a directive has indeed been issued.

The mosques in the state of Jammu and Kashmir have been under the scanner for a very long time now as some of them are power centres where secessionist activities are believed to be propagated.

Further, some of these mosques are believed to use as a front for channelling funds to the terror operations and to allow indoctrination of religious sermons through Friday prayers to young Muslim children to pick up arms against the state.

The decision of the Modi government is part of a new approach taken to ensure that places of worship are not misused for terror activities. Over the years, some of the mosques have been influenced by Islamists and Wahhabism to perpetrate terror on security forces and citizens of the country.
