Tensions escalate as a boy brutally stabbed during the protests in Ranchi against alleged lynching of Tabrez Ansari held by Muslim groups

Opindia talked to Sub-Inspector (SI) Gopal Prasad Singh from Daily Bazaar police station who confirmed the report of the boy being stabbed and the other being beaten up.

Protest meetings carried out by a group of Muslim organisations under the banner of Muttahida Muslima Mahaz (MMM) yesterday in Ranchi, Jharkhand against the alleged lynching of Tabrez Ansari in Saraikela district of the state turned violent resulting in mounting tension in the area. The protestors reportedly vandalised a bus of Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) at Rajendra Chowk creating panic among the passengers.

According to reports, a boy named Vivek Srivastava was brutally stabbed by the mob protestors and another one was beaten up in the night around 10 pm when the two boys were passing by on a bike. Injured Vivek was admitted to Medica Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Opindia talked to Sub-Inspector (SI) Gopal Prasad Singh from Daily Bazaar police station who confirmed the report of the boy being stabbed and the other being beaten up. SI Singh told that the Muslim protestors took out a procession in the night around 10 pm after the protest meeting that was organised at Urs ground at Doranda in the day. He said that the protestors blocked the road near the Iqra Masjid area during the procession and created a ruckus by damaging public property. The situation was brought under control after police intervention.

According to reports, no prior permission was taken from the SDO by the protestors before organising the protest gathering and then taking out the procession. The Hindu reported that three Muslim boys were thrashed and forced to chant the slogan of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ by a group of people in the airport area. A complaint this has been lodged at Doranda police station.

MMM convenor Maulana Obedulla Kasmi said that their protest was not targeted at a particular caste or religion and actually it was against those elements who are trying to spread hatred through crime like mob lynchings. The Muslim organisations have prepared a charter of seven demands too present before the government.
