According to the Indian Army Sources, 5 to 6 terrorists had sneaked in 500 metres into the Indian side before the patrolling team spotted and engaged them. In the ensuing encounter, the Indian Army personnel succeeded in foiling their infiltration attempt while one soldier sustained injuries and was subsequently evacuated.
The infiltration attempt was made within 15 hours of the announcement made by Home Minister Amit Shah of scrapping the archaic Article 370 and a bill introduced in the parliament to bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into 2 Union Territories-Jammu and Kashmir with legislature based on Puducherry UT model and Ladakh without legislature. The bill was subsequently passed in the Rajya Sabha late yesterday evening.
On Saturday, another infiltration bid was foiled by the army where Pakistani BAT personnel with some terrorists had tried to enter India at the Keran sector. India had offered Pakistan to take the bodies of their soldiers back but Pakistan did not give any response.
Following the deteriorating situation in Kashmir, the government had earlier deployed about 35000 additional security personnel, possibly anticipating increased infiltration attempts being made by Pakistani terrorists to continue to incite violence in the Valley.
After Armed Forces’ press conference revealed that Pakistani terrorists operating in the Valley are equipped with high-tech arms such as IEDs and American built M-24 sniper, the government had pre-emptively asked tourists and pilgrims to return and had cancelled the Yatra.
The Indian Armed Forces- the Territorial Army as well as the Air Force and other paramilitary units operating in Jammu and Kashmir have been put on high alert to prevent the Valley from sliding into chaos and hinder Pakistani based terrorists attempt to incite violence in the state.
