Three weeks after Jalil Sheikh killed wife for refusing to get into prostitution, Delhi police nab him from West Bengal

After killing her, Jalil Shiekh wrapped the body in a blanket and stuffed it in a plastic bag and dumped it near a 'Barat Ghar' in Sagarpur.

In another depraved act, a 27-year-old Delhi resident, Jalil Sheikh, killed his wife Fatema Sardar for refusing to get into prostitution. Nearly three weeks after the incident took place, Delhi police confirmed on Saturday that the accused has been finally apprehended from West Bengal.

Fatema Sardar, who was Jalil Sheikh’s second wife, got married to him in the year 2014. For the last seven to eight months, they had been living in a rented house in West Sagarpur in Delhi. His first wife lives in Bengal, from where Jalil and Fatema originally hail.

Southwest Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Devender Arya said Jalil was forcing Fatema into prostitution but she was resisting him. Irked over her continuous resentment, Jalil killed her on August 5. He then wrapped the body in a blanket and stuffed it in a plastic bag and dumped it near a ‘Barat Ghar’ in Sagarpur. He thereafter escaped to his home state of West Bengal, Arya said.

Police confirmed that they recovered the body a day later, on August 6. In its efforts to locate the accused, Delhi police published circulars with pictures of the duo. On August 17, police received a call from West Bengal. The caller confirmed that one of the photo Delhi police had published in a notice matched with that of his relative, Fatema Sardar, from South 24 Parganas district.

The caller also provided other details about Fatema for verification such as she lived in West Sagarpur with husband Jalil.

Following this input, the Delhi police on Wednesday arrested Jalil, who also has a past criminal record, from a railway station in Kolkata when he came there to sell his motorcycle, DCP Arya said. The accused has been previously arrested in a human trafficking case in West Bengal.

Meanwhile, after a post-mortem examination, Fatema’s body was handed over to her father and uncle.
