The Siliguri police in West Bengal have arrested 43 Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members who were protesting against the Siliguri Metropolitan Police (SMP) on being denied permission to hold a rally in support of the repealing of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.

The Siliguri Metropolitan police, an off-shoot of the West Bengal police falling under Mamata’s realm denied giving permission to Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) to hold a rally in support of the abrogation of Article 370.
BJP Siliguri district president, Abhijit Roy Choudhury claimed that the permission was sought well in time but even then it was denied. “It is very sad to see that the Siliguri Metropolitan Police has denied permission to BJYM Siliguri Org. district to hold a rally in support of the removal of Article 370 on 09.08.2019 although permission was sought well in time,” he said in a press release.
Choudhury further alleged that the SMP gave permission to CPI(M) to hold a rally against the removal Article 370 but denied them permission since it was to celebrate the bold move taken by Modi government.
“It must be remembered that permission was given to CPIM to hold a rally against the Removal of Article 370 on the day of the Bill being presented in Rajya Sabha itself. This clearly shows a clear alliance between the CPIM and TMC and the Trinamool Congress trying it’s best to give oxygen to the CPIM in Siliguri,” he said.
“We strongly condemn this undemocratic Act of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police taking place under instructions from Nabanna and their tacit support for Anti-Indian sentiments by supporting and permitting rallies against the removal of Article 370 but preventing nationalists from holding a rally in support of the removal of Article 370,” he added.
Exhibiting similar intolerance, Mamata Banerjee’s government got 5 Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members, including district BJYM president, Kanchan Debnath, arrested in Siliguri on August 6 as well. They had also gathered to celebrate the scrapping of Article 370 and 35A.
In a historic move, the Modi government recently revoked the special status accorded to Jammu and Kashmir. While abrogating the provisions of Article 370 and scrapping Article 35A, it also bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories – J&K and Ladakh.
Anti-Modi Mamata Banerjee has obviously not accepted this bold move, which is bound to bring in significant changes in the lives of the people in the valley. The TMC government condemned the Centre’s decision by calling it ‘Procedural harakiri’. But surprisingly, TMC’s chief whip dared to go against their dictator’s autocracy and took to Tweeter to welcome the stripping of Article 370 through his cryptic message.
