The Goa police take sou moto cognisance and registered an FIR against swimming coach Surajit Ganguly for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old national level swimmer. The coach has been absconding while the Goa police are on the lookout for the accused, reports News 18.

The FIR at Mapusa police station has been registered under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 376 (commit rape) and 506 (2) (offence of criminal intimidation) of the IPC and the relevant sections of the POCSO Act along with Section 8 of the Goa Tourism Act.
A video of the disturbing incidence had emerged on social media yesterday where swimming coach Surajit Ganguly, originally hailing from West Bengal and now living in Mapusa, Goa, was seen brutally molesting a 15-year-old minor national level swimmer. The visuals of the outrageous act created a sense of anger and disgust amongst the Netizens and necessitated prompt action.
Earlier in the day, union sports minister Kiren Rijiju vowed strict action against the swimming coach who was seen molesting the minor athlete. He wrote, “I’ve taken a strong view of the incident. The Goa Swimming Association has terminated the contract of coach Surajit Ganguly. I’m asking the Swimming Federation of India to ensure that this coach is not employed anywhere in India. This applies to all Federations & disciplines”.
Following this, Goa Swiming Association had terminated their contract with the coach.
Kiren Rijiju, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) Youth Affairs & Sports had urged the police to take stringent action against the coach for the heinous act.
