Jammu and Kashmir: Top LeT terrorist responsible for attack on fruit trader’s family killed by security forces in Sopore

Asif was travelling in a car when he was intercepted by the security forces at a crossing. However, he did not stop and opened fire at the forces, following which the forces retaliated and Asif was killed in the shootout

A high-ranking Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist identified as Asif has been killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore of Jammu and Kashmir, reports ANI.

According to reports, terrorist Asif was responsible for a recent shootout and injuries to the family members of a fruit trader in Sopore. The injured also included a young girl Asma Jan. He was also responsible for shooting at a migrant labourer Shafi Alam in Sopore.

Reportedly, Asif was travelling in a car when he was intercepted by the security forces at a crossing. However, he did not stop and opened fire at the forces, following which the forces retaliated and Asif was killed in the shootout.

On Friday, four members of a family, including a 2-year-old infant, were injured after terrorists opened fire at a fruit trader’s house in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore district. The attack was the result of challenging the terrorists’ warning to keep the shop shut as a mark of protest against centre’s move to end special status to the state under Article 370, police said. The terrorists, by carrying out such attacks, attempt to instil fear among the people and disrupt peace in the Valley.

The neutralising of the Lashkar terrorist comes after Jammu and Kashmir police arrested eight LeT terrorists, who were involved in threatening and intimidation of locals by publishing and circulating of posters on the behest of Pakistan sponsored terror organisations.

The arrested have been identified as Aijaz Mir, Omar Mir, Tawseef Najar, Imitiyaz Najar, Omar Akbar, Faizan Latief, Danish Habib, and Showkat Ahmad Mir. The police are also investigating the complicity of terrorists in the recent killing of civilians in the area.
