Trouble seems to be mounting for the Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, who is embroiled in over 80 criminal cases slapped on him by the Uttar Pradesh government. The district court in Rampur on Thursday rejected Azam Khan’s anticipatory bail plea in 5 more cases. The cases are related to the land grabbing accusations levelled on him by farmers of Aliyaganj area.
Last week, the court of district and sessions judge, Alka Srivastava, had rejected the Samajwadi Party leader’s anticipatory bail plea in 29 cases, mainly related to land grab, moved by his counsel.
In the FIRs, Azam has been accused of forcibly grabbing the land of farmers when the Samajwadi Party government was in power in Uttar Pradesh. Interestingly, the land is now a part of the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University, which was constructed by the senior SP leader.
Azam had applied for anticipatory bail before the court in the case related to the theft of books and ancient Islamic manuscripts from the Aaliya Madarsa, amongst other cases.
Notably, the court had also rejected the anticipatory bail sought by the sexist SP leader for his ‘underwear jibe’ against BJP leader and film actor Jaya Prada. An FIR was then registered against Azam under section 509 of the IPC (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and under section 125 of Representation of People’s Act.
Recently, Samajwadi Party leader and UP’s ‘land mafia’ Azam Khan was booked for ‘dacoity’ and stealing buffaloes. Two people have filed an FIR against him in Rampur for allegedly stealing buffaloes for which his anticipatory bail plea was also rejected.
A day before, the Samajwadi Party MP’ name had appeared in the FIR for a dacoity case. In this fresh case, it was alleged that he and his allies forcefully acquired land from a farmer for a school he had built.
A complaint had been filed against Azam Khan, former circle officer Aalay Hasan, Fasahat Shanu and Veerendra Goyal by a person named Nanhe. The complainant had alleged that his land along with other’s was taken for construction of Rampur Public School. He was offered a different plot of land in place of his original plot, but that never happened. Rampur SP Ajay Pal Sharma confirmed that Nanhe’s land was grabbed and his house was demolished for the construction of the school.
Recently, Azm Khan was also declared as a ‘Land Mafia’ by the UP government.
