The Congress party now led by interim Chief Sonia Gandhi sent show-cause notices to three of its senior Jammu and Kashmir leaders for meeting the European Union (EU) delegation that was in India to visit Kashmir.
Show-cause notices were issued to Jammu and Kashmi Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) General Secretary Usman Majid, spokesperson Farooq Andrabi and General Secretary Surinder Singh.
The show-cause notice was issued reportedly because the Congress leaders met the EU delegation without the instructions or prior permission of the party.
Reportedly, Usman Majid met the EU delegation in New Delhi during a luncheon while the others met the delegation in Kashmir itself. Abdrabi is reported to have met the delegation on Tuesday while Singh is reported to have met the delegation on Wednesday.
The three have been given one week to explain their position to the party. They are expected to explain why they met the EU delegation without the consent of the Party.
According to a report in Times of India, JKPCC President Ghulam Mir has also confirmed that a show-cause notice has been sent to the three leaders because they met the delegation without the permission of the party.
An unofficial delegation of European Union Parliamentarians (MEPs) visited Jammu & Kashmir on Wednesday in order to assess the situation in the state. They have asserted that the situation in the state is an internal matter of India and they will not be submitting any report to the European Union.
During a press briefing, the EU MPs also slammed Asaduddin Owaisi’s remark where he claimed that they were Nazi lovers. “We are not Nazi lovers. If we were, we would have not been elected. We are very angry at being called Nazi lovers,” one of them said. Asaduddin Owaisi had made the allegation through a tweet on Tuesday.
Congress had also “slammed” the Modi government for the unofficial EU delegation visiting Kashmir.
The mainstream media had fuelled conspiracy theories and lies about the delegation as well. They insinuated that a shady broker had organised the EU delegation visit to Kashmir. As it turns out, Madi Sharma is a member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). Importantly, she has been a member of the EESC since 2002. Furthermore, she was made a UK member of the forum through an appointment made by the Prime Minister of the UK himself. In the said Committee, External Relations are one of her areas of interest.
