Hindi media outlet Dainik Bhaskar has issued an apology for not paying tribute to former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri on the occasion of his birth anniversary which he shares with Mahatma Gandhi on the 2nd of October.
The newspaper said, “On the 2nd of October, along with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, it was also the 115th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Shastriji has made an invaluable contribution to the development of the nation. We failed to focus on Shastriji on the 2nd of October, therefore we apologize for it.”
Lal Bahadur Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India and had succeeded Jawaharlal Nehru to the post. He was also the Prime Minister of the country during the 1965 Indo-Pak war. He died under mysterious circumstances in Tashkent, the cause of which is still debated to this day. His slogan of ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ continues to reverberate across the country to this day.
