Surat has recorded its first death from the Wuhan Coranavirus pandemic. This is the first such case in Gujarat where 18 cases have been detected thus far. This takes the total number of deaths in India to 7.

The patient was a 69-year male old and had underlying health issues. He had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. Another female patient has died in Vadodara who also had underlying health issues. The details of her test results are awaited.

The total number of cases in India has increased to 344. Meanwhile, a lockdown has been announced in 75 districts across the country. Railway, metro services and inter-state passenger transport have been suspended until the 31st of March. Freight trains will continue to operate amidst the lockdown.
