On 26th October, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Jammu hoisted Indian National Flag on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) office in Jammu. Videos have emerged where BJP workers can be seen chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” while hoisting the flag.
Recently, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti said that she would not hoist the National Flag till the flag of Jammu and Kashmir’s flag and its constitution is restored. She also claimed that she is not interested to contest elections without getting Article 370 restored in the valley that was abrogated on 5Th August 2019.

Jammu and Kashmir police have detained three BJP workers, Mir Basharat, Spokesperson BJP Jammu and Kashmir, Mir Ishfaq and Akhtar Khan. In a tweet, he said, “This is just the beginning, if not this time but I challenge myself that in next attempt I will glorify the #National #flag on the heights of the big clock at Ghanta Ghar, Lal chowk.”

‘Gupkar alliance’ calls the abrogation of Article 370 ‘unconstitutional’
On 24th October, the six-party ‘Gupkar alliance’ that includes National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Conference (PC), Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M), Peoples Movement (PM) and Awami National Conference (ANC) said that they would fight together to ensure restoration of Article 370 in the region. They called the decision made by the BJP-led central government ‘unconstitutional’. Several leaders of the political parties were detained in August 2019, keeping in mind the law and order situation in the state. Recently, Mehbooba Mufti was released from over year-long detention.
The state BJP chief Ravinder Raina had called the alliance anti-national. He said, “They will not be allowed to pursue the anti-India agenda.” The BJP has announced that it will observe 26th October as Merger Day as on this day, Jammu and Kashmir was annexed to India.
3 senior PDP leaders quit party in protest against Mehbooba’a anti-India stand
As per a report in Times Now, 3 senior PDP leaders, namely Trilok Singh Bajwa, Ved Mahajan and Wafa have resigned as a protest against Mehbooba Mufti’s recent statements against the Indian flag and the Indian Union. While Bajwa is a former MP and was considered close to Mehbooba’s father Mufti Mohammad Syed, Ved Mahajan is a general secretary of the party.
