The Delhi Police personnel on Friday detained pro-Palestine protesters for creating a stir on the streets of the national capital. Among those arrested include ‘economist’ Jean Dreze and Communist Party of India leader Annie Raja for demonstrating at the APJ Abdul Kalam crossing in Delhi.
The police force snatched banners and placards carried by troublemakers protesting in New Delhi for a war precipitated after Palestinians from the Gaza Strip perpetrated the October 7 terror attacks in the bordering villages with Israel, which launched a ground offensive to eradicate Hamas, a terror outfit controlling the Gaza Strip autocratically since 2007.

The protest, organised by the collective ‘Indians for Palestine’, started from the Khan Market area and was marching towards the Israeli embassy, demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
It is worth noting that Dreze was a member of the National Advisory Council (NAC) during the UPA era. He has often been caught lying and inflaming public sentiments against the Modi government. Ahead of Lok Sabha elections 2024, Jean Dreze had claimed that “under the wave of authoritarianism” and “suppression of Opposition voices” by the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), the Lok Sabha elections commencing on the 19th of April were “as good as rigged”.
The protesters wanted India to end all ties with Israel for its decision to retaliate against the October 7 terror attacks by Hamas, which left 1,300 dead and hundreds of others captive at the hands of their tormenters. The protesters made no demand on Hamas to return the held captives, many of whom are kept in abject conditions in the vast labyrinth of tunnels under the Gaza Strip.
Other demands included stopping the sale of military equipment and ammunition to Israel by public and private players that the Israeli Defence Forces might be using against the Hamas terrorists still active in Gaza. Urging a boycott of companies and organisations that supported Israel in defending its territorial integrity against an outfit that has vowed to destroy the Jewish nation was made by the protesters.
