Notably, in recent times several incidents of Islamists assaulting Hindu men for being in relationship with Muslim women, or simply being seen with them. These Islamists peddle the theory of ‘Bhagwa Love Trap claiming that Hindu men were trapping Muslim women deliberately in love affairs and then assaulting them.
In May this year, a Hindu auto-rickshaw driver was attacked by several Muslim youths on 17th April for picking up a burqa-clad Muslim woman passenger in Karnataka.
In April, a Hindu professor of Shibli PG College, in UP’s Azamgarh was assaulted and threatened on 24th April while brandishing a pistol by a Muslim mob alleging a ‘Bhagwa love trap’. The accused also tried to incite religious sentiments by making a video of the incident viral online.
Last year, OpIndia’s undercover investigation exposed several WhatsApp groups made to keep a watch on the women of their community. They also prevented Muslim women from hanging out with men from other communities (especially the Hindu Faith) through coercion, moral policing and real-life attacks
