BJP MP Manoj Tiwari proposes unique way to ensure disruptions in Parliament are minimised

Every year, Indian Parliament scales new heights (or lows) of productivity. Countless hours have been lost due to a non-functioning parliament. Very often, one finds that the opposition members, no matter which party they belong to, engage in disruptions to either the Rajya Sabha or the Lok Sabha.

The problem is heightened by the fact that even a handful of unruly MPs are enough to scuttle the entire proceedings of the house. The Speaker too is often found helpless and eventually we find that the house has been adjourned without any constructive work.

Member of Parliament Delhi (North-East) & Delhi President of Bharatiya Janata Party Manoj Tiwari has now proposed an innovative solution to this problem. In a letter written to the speaker of the Lok Sabha, Tiwari has suggested a “No Work No Pay Model”, as reported by ANI.

Tiwari has referred to the “unprecedented chaos” in the house which has resulted in “loss of valuable time in the Parliament”. Tiwari has therefore proposed that the salaries of MPs be deducted for not engaging in any constructive work.

The proposal if accepted and implemented in the right spirit would at least ensure that there is some sort of penalty or monetary impact on the members of Parliament from both houses, if their respective houses fail to function. But given the rate of disruptions, one cannot rule out a possibility that MPs’s salaries may go into the negative if this proposal is accepted.
