Maharashtra ATS arrests Pakistan trained suicide bomber planning high profile assassinations in Mumbai

Maharashtra ATS has arrested a man who was allegedly planning to assassinate some important personalities in Mumbai. According to reports, the Juhu unit of Maharashtra ATS arrested the man from the western suburbs of Mumbai.

The 32-year-old, who is reportedly named Faisal Hasan Mirza, was arrested on May 11, has allegedly been to Pakistan via Sharjah and Dubai. The ATS has reportedly stated that the man was called to Pakistan by a wanted terror activist in the city and he was trained in a Karachi based camp.

The ATS has reportedly stated that Mirza went first to Sharjah to meet the terror activist who provided him with logistics support. He then reportedly went to Karachi via Dubai. While in Karachi, Mirza was trained by a known terror organisation in their camp. The ATS has reportedly added that he has been trained in explosives, sophisticated firearms as well as suicide bombing techniques. The ATS has also added that the terror camp is backed by Pakistan’s ISI.

Officials at ATS have further added that during interrogations, Faisal Hasan Mirza revealed he was part of a terror group that was planning to carry out attacks at ‘public utilities’ and crowded places. He has also revealed plans to assassinate some important personalities in Mumbai.

According to reports, he was presented before a trial court after his arrest and was remanded to ATS custody till May 21. It is notable here that this incident comes at the wake of ex-Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif admitting to Pakistan’s role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. Earlier last year, Gujrat ATS had arrested two individuals who were planning attacks on Jewish populated areas in Mumbai and Ahmedabad who were allegedly the operatives of the Islamic State.
