Rahul Gandhi uses Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s health to score political points

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has drawn severe criticism for politicizing the illness of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He used the hospitalization of the BJP stalwart to exalt the culture of his own party.

Addressing a rally in Mumbai, he said, “Vajpayee ji is ill, who went first? I went to meet him at the hospital. Though he fought against us, Vajpayee ji worked for nation-building.” He went on to add, “LK Advani has been the guru of PM Modi, but I have seen in events that PM Modi does not even respect his guru. Today I feel very sad for Advani ji. The Congress party has given him more respect than Modi Ji.”

People on Social Media were quick to remind him of the manner in which the Congress party ill-treated PV Narasimha Rao, another former Prime Minister, who is credited with ushering the era of liberalization of the economy.

Rebel Congress leader Shehzad Poonawalla also claimed that AIIMS had explicitly asked Rahul Gandhi not to visit for health concerns. But Rahul ignored their pleas and went to meet Vajpayee anyway just to score political points.

Shehzad added that according to AIIMS, till 7:30 pm, owing to the tests Vajpayee was undergoing, wellwishers were asked to avoid visiting him, but Rahul Gandhi paid no heed.

The Congress President who has a history of embarrassing himself in public recently made himself an object of further ridicule after he declared that founder of the soft drink Coca Cola was a Shikhanji vendor in America. Earlier today, a Court in Bhiwandi had framed charges against him in a defamation case filed against him by an RSS worker in 2014.
