Doing God’s work even in death: Family of Kanwariya, killed in car accident, donates his organs and saves 5 lives

Dr Meenu Singh of AllMS Rishikesh remarked, "Sachin has given the gift of life to many others. AllMS will always remember him as a silent hero."

A 25-year-old kanwariya named Sachin Khandelwal, who was killed in an accident, has saved the lives of 5 other people through organ donation.

As per a report by The Times of India, Sachin was hit by a car in Uttarakhand’s Roorkee city on 22nd July this year. He was returning home from Haridwar after collecting water from the holy Ganga.

The victim was rushed to AIIMS Rishikesh but succumbed to his injuries. The doctors at the hospital had approached the family about the prospect of organ donation. Sachin’s family readily agreed to the request.

The kidney, pancreas and liver of the victim were transferred to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research in Chandigarh, and the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in Delhi.

The Dehradun police helped in the expedited transportation of the organs on Thursday (1st August). The cornea donation by Sachin Khandelwal’s family helped two patients in Uttarakhand regain their sight on Saturday (3rd August).

While Sachin is no more in the mortal world, his organs saved the lives of 5 people. While speaking about the matter, Dr Meenu Singh of AllMS Rishikesh remarked, “Sachin has given the gift of life to many others. AllMS will always remember him as a silent hero.”

The brother of the deceased Kanwariya, Pankaj Khandelwal, stated, “This was the only way Sachin could have lived on for a few more years. I believe those who can should donate organs if they want their loved ones to continue living after death.”

He added that the family understood the importance of organ donation and pointed out that Sachin’s body was returned to the family by AIIMS Rishikesh with all dignity.
