As the day passed by, more details of the attacks with photos and videos surfaced. In a video shared by X user YearOfTheKraken, a woman in Bangla was heard saying, “They are destroying our Mandir. They are destroying our Mandir. Have they ‘freed’ the country to destroy Mandirs?”

An X user, Rahul Verma, shared the ordeal of a friend whose ancestral house in Bangladesh was set ablaze. The mob also tried to rape his aunt. He wrote, “One of my friends whose ancestral home is in BD and currently living in Gede(Border area) in WB India told me that his house set ablaze and they also tried to r@pe their masi… The situation is too tough to control,” and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help Hindus in distress in Bangladesh.

On 5th August, Bangladesh was pushed into chaos after a successful coup leading to the ouster of PM Sheikh Hasina. Later, she fled the country to a safer location as the agitated mob was about to reach her residence. The protests that started against reservation for the family members of the freedom fighters turned into full-fledged violence against the government. Several protesters were killed as the government used armed forces and police against the protesters leading to the fall of Hasina’s government.
