‘You are worthless Ch*mar’: Shahnawaz rapes Dalit nurse in UP, threatens to kill her, Junaid and Mehnaaz help accused

Another nurse Mehnaaz and a ward boy Junaid, who also worked at the hospital, helped Shahnawaz to execute the heinous crime. The trio has been arrested.

A startling incident of rape with a nurse has come to light in a private hospital in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. The accused identified as Dr Shahnawaz held the 20-year-old victim hostage and sexually assaulted her.

Another nurse Mehnaaz and a ward boy Junaid, who also worked at the hospital, helped the accused in this horrible act. All three have been arrested by the authorities.

The incident took place in ABM Hospital located on Thakurdwara-Kashipur Road, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Thakurdwara police station area of Moradabad.

Its director Dr Shahnawaz and his wife, both Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAUMS) degree holders run the facility together. Their residence is above the hospital.

The victim lives in a village near the Dilari police station in Moradabad. Her father filed a police complaint and stated that his daughter had spent the previous ten months working as a nurse at the ABM Hospital. She reported for duty at 7 pm on 17th August when the doctor sexually violated her and even threatened to kill her if she complained about the incident. The complainant further disclosed that Mehnaaz told his daughter that the doctor had summoned her to his room upstairs twice and was forcefully taken to Shahnawaz’s residence by Junaid and her when she refused to go there willingly. The two then pushed her inside and locked the door from outside.

Afterwards, the perpetrator kept her captive and sexually abused her at around 12:30 am as she repeatedly pleaded for help and screamed “Aunty” but to no avail. He hurled casteist abuses at her and issued death threats. He declared, “You are a worthless Ch*m*r. You people are nothing.” He even offered her money in return for her silence. Meanwhile, Junaid took her mobile phone to prevent her from calling the cops and informing them about the instance. She narrated the entire ordeal to a senior nurse who arrived at the institution on the morning of 18th August. She then reached home at around 10 am in an alarming condition and unveiled the occurrence in front of her family members after which they notified the authorities and launched a complaint. She is traumatised and scared after the incident.

A case against the doctor for rape under sections 61(2), 64, 351(2) and 127(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with relevant sections of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) Act has been submitted by the police. Mehnaaz and Junaid have also been booked under conspiracy-related offences. OpIndia has a copy of the First Information Report (FIR).

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural Sandeep Kumar Meena, the police have taken swift action in the case and apprehended Dr Shahnawaz, nurse Mehnaza and ward boy Junaid and they will be produced in the court. The victim has undergone a medical examination in a government hospital and her statement is being recorded. Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar mentioned that a case has been registered at Dilari police station on the complaint of the victim’s father. Mehnaaz and Junaid are being interrogated by the authorities.

The police and the health department team examined the facility on the night of 18th August at the Chief medical officer’s (CMO) order. The Community Health Center (CHC) superintendent deployed a team to the hospital to inquire about the condition of the patients admitted there so they could be shifted if the institution was sealed. Nine people were found to be admitted there.
