Punjab police arrest Congress Sarpanch Kulbir Singh after woman alleges he raped and threatened her at gunpoint

Police officer Raman Lata stated that, based on the victims' statements, a case has been registered, the sarpanch has been arrested.

On Wednesday, August 21, a woman levelled rape charges against current Congress Sarpanch Kulbir Singh in Gurdaspur, Punjab. She alleged that the Congress Sarpanch raped and threatened her at gunpoint. Based on the victim’s statement, the Punjab police registered a case and arrested the Congress leader.

In a video shared by IANS, the woman is heard stating that she had a financial loan transaction with someone, which led her to seek assistance from Sarpanch Kulbir Singh at his office in Prem Nagar, where Singh allegedly raped and threatened her at gunpoint.

“I had a money loan transaction with someone, for which I went to Sarpanch Kulbir Singh at his office in Prem Nagar for help. The Sarpanch raped her at gunpoint and threatened me…” the victim was quoted as saying by IANS.

In this context, female police officer Raman Lata stated that, based on the victims’ statements, a case has been registered, the sarpanch has been arrested, and the woman has undergone a medical examination. She added that the accused sarpanch will be presented in court, and further legal action will be pursued against him.
