Bihar: ‘Minorities under attack’ narrative falls flat as man who inserted chilli powder in rectum of a ‘thief’ turns out to be a Muslim

Sharing the video, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and others alleged ‘Taliban Raj in Bihar’ and ‘oppression of minorities’ in the state. However, the Police arrested the main accused in this case who has been identified as Mohammad Sifat, debunking the oppression of minorities angle.

On Monday (26th August), a video that was said to be recorded somewhere in Bihar’s Araria district started doing rounds on social media. In the viral video, some miscreants could be seen assaulting a man after tying his hands behind his back and stripping his pants. Later, they start pouring and stuffing red chilli power into his rectum while paying no heed to his mercy appeal.

The viral video triggered an outrage on social media. Additionally, efforts are underway to identify and arrest the other accused seen in the video.

According to reports, it was found that the said video was from Islamnagar under the Araria police station area. Some people caught a 30-year-old youth on suspicion of motorbike theft. After assaulting him, they tied his hands behind his back with a rope. After this, they poured red chilli powder into his anus while the youth kept screaming and begging for mercy. After the miscreants stuffed red chilli powder in his anus, the victim was made to wear his pants.

In the viral video, some people can be heard asking to hand him over to the Police. But, it made no difference to the accused. One of the accused said, “If we hand him over to the Police, they will spare him.”

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav shared the video and alleged that Taliban rule is underway in Bihar. He wrote, “Taliban rule in Bihar! BJP/NDA is happily in power in Bihar, hence the casteist media is silent. We and our party talk about the rights and share of Dalits, backward and minorities, hence the casteists always see our rule as jungle raj.”

The Police took cognizance of the video as it started doing rounds on social media. Based on the video footage, they registered an FIR at Araria police station against the accused under sections 109 and 117 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Subsequently, they arrested the main accused Mohammad Sifat on Tuesday (27th August). The arrested accused is a resident of Araria.

Sharing the details of Sifat’s arrest, BJP leader Hari Manjhi took a dig at Tejashwi Yadav stating that now RJD-Congress people will be left speechless because the accused is a Muslim. Slamming the I.N.D.I. Alliance parties, he added, “The truth is that RJD and Congress encourage such goons in the name of Muslim appeasement.”

After nabbing Mohammad Sifat, the Police are making efforts to identify and arrest other accused seen in the video. According to reports, the man who was subjected to the inhuman act in the video is a resident of the Simraha police station area, Araria. It is said that several cases of theft have been registered against him.

In the recent incident, he was subjected to the inhuman act after he was accused of attempting to steal a bike. The police kept him at the Police station for about half an hour but released him afterward as they received no written complaint against him.
