Jabalpur-Hyderabad IndiGo flight diverted to Nagpur after receiving bomb threat scribbled on toilet paper

The handwritten note with the words ‘Blast 9.00 am’ scribbled on a piece of toilet paper was found stuck on the commode seat in the toilet in the aircraft, causing panic on the flight.

An IndiGo flight from Jabalpur to Hyderabad was diverted to Nagpur on Sunday after receiving a bomb threat. IndiGo flight number 6E 7308 operating from Jabalpur to Hyderabad was diverted to Nagpur due to a handwritten note with a bomb threat.

The handwritten note with the words ‘Blast 9.00 am’ scribbled on a piece of toilet paper was found stuck on the commode seat in the toilet in the aircraft, causing panic on the flight. As a result of the threat, the flight carrying 69 passengers and four crew members made an emergency landing at Nagpur Airport on Sunday morning.

“Upon landing, all passengers were disembarked, and mandatory security checks were promptly initiated. Passengers were provided with assistance and refreshments, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the airline said in a statement.

According to airport sources, the air traffic control (ATC) tower conveyed a message to the station operational compliance check (SOCC) at the airport, indicating that flight no 6E-48PQ was being diverted to Nagpur due to a bomb threat found in the lavatory. The message was communicated at approximately 9 am, and the entire airport security apparatus was swiftly mobilised to confront any potential exigency.

As per flight history recorded by flightradar24, the ATR 72-600 aircraft had crossed Nagpur when the threat was received, therefore it took a U-turn and landed at Nagpur airport.

All the emergency services, including the fire tender, ambulance, and a quick reaction team of the central industrial security force (CISF), were kept ready at Nagpur Airport ahead of the landing. The aircraft touched down by 9.20 am, and all passengers were evacuated. Handbags of all the passengers were being examined by security personnel.

A Probe into the bomb threat has been launched.

Earlier in August, Air India flight 657 landed at Thiruvananthapuram Airport following a bomb threat, which was later found to be a hoax.
