An Afghan national who had managed to procure an Indian Passport and an Aadhaar card, has been deported back to Afghanistan, Indian Express has reported. According to the report, the man identified as Abdul Hamid Qadiri was sent back on Thursday by the Pune city police.
It is believed that Qadiri had come to India in 2014 on a student visa and during its tenure married a Pune woman which is a violation of visa norms. Qadri whose details were registered with Pune’s Foreigner Registration Office (FRO), then fraudulently procured an Aadhaar card which had an address of the city’s Bhawani Peth.
He later decided to apply for an Indian Passport owing to his desire to continue residing in India. Incidentally in November 2017, his police verification was marked as complete by Khadak police station, who in the documents stated that they had no reason to believe that he was not an Indian citizen. Following the completion of process, he was issued a passport.
Later the authorities discovered the matter, following which, he was questioned by the police who after an investigation issued him a ‘Leave India’ notice.
According to a Times of India report, the 24 year old Qadri was studying BBA and had even procured a fake PAN card. He though had failed to complete his degree. During the police investigation, Qadri was barred from leaving his residence by the FRO, which has now ordered an inquiry to ascertain how he managed to procure the Passport and supposedly fake IDs.
Qadri was deported from Delhi and the police has sought that he be blacklisted by the Home Ministry.
Incidentally this isn’t the only time foreign nationals have been found in possession of Indian identification cards.
We had reported at the start of this month that three Rohingya Muslims had been arrested in Hyderabad for obtaining Aadhaar cards, passports, PAN cards, drivers’ license, voter ID and opening bank accounts claiming to be Indian nationals.
Besides this, 24 Bangladeshis were arrested in Tripura back in May for suspected terror links. All of them were believed to have been carrying fake Aadhaar cards. Even Chinese nationals have been caught possessing Aadhaar cards.
