SP Vaid removed from DGP post in Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbag Singh to take over

Sesh Paul Vaid who was till yesterday the DGP of the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been removed from his post and appointed as the transport commissioner. According to reports, a government order late on Thursday stated that SP Vaid has been removed from his post and Dilbag Singh, the DG of prisons, has been assigned the to the post of DGP temporarily.

Dilbag Singh, a 1987 batch IPS officer, will reportedly hold the additional responsibility of DGP. According to reports, the additional director general of CID in the state, Abdul Gani Mir, was also replaced by B Srinivas just days ago. Media reports have speculated that SP Vaid’s removal has come as a fallout of the recent incident where 12 family members of J&K police personnel were abducted by terrorists. The hostages were freed only after the police released the father of a top Hizbul commander. The order for Vaid’s removal was issued by the principal secretary RK Goyal.

According to reports, Dilbag Singh was made the DG of prisons after the infamous incident of dreaded LeT terrorist Naveed Jatt escaping from the Srinagar Hospital during a routine health check-up. Naveed Jatt was lodged in Srinagar jail and many staffers, including the prison doctor, were under scrutiny for allegedly aiding his escape.

After Dilbag Singh took over as DG prisons, he had reportedly brought many reforms, like transferring some dreaded criminals to jails outside Kashmir. The Srinagar jail has long been hailed as a paradise for terrorists. After Dilbag Singh took over, almost 40 terrorists serving time have reportedly been shifted to jails outside Kashmir. Recently, the NIA had arrested a former deputy superintendent of Srinagar jail, Firoz Ahmed Lone for his alleged involvement with helping an incarcerated Hizbul terrorist Ishak Palla meet fresh terror recruits and aiding them to exfiltrate the LoC to get trained in Pakistan operated terror camps.

it is notable here that the state of Jammu and Kashmir is currently under the governor’s rule. Satyapal Malik was recently appointed the governor of the state after former governor NN Vohra completed two successive terms as the governor of the state since 2008.
